Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr.

Joseph A. Greenaway, Jr. (born London, England on November 16, 1957) is a federal judge who sits on the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He was appointed to the court by President Bill Clinton.

Early life and education

Greenaway was born of West Indian parents in London, England and emigrated to the United States at the age of two. Greenaway earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1978 and a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1981. [http://www.fjc.gov/servlet/tGetInfo?jid=911] From 1982 until 1983, he worked as a law clerk for Judge Vincent Lyons Broderick of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Professional career

Greenaway worked in private practice in New York City from 1981 until 1982 and again from 1983 until 1985. He became an assistant United State's Attorney for the District of New Jersey from 1985 until 1989, when he became the chief of narcotics for the District of New Jersey. From 1990 until 1996, Greenaway worked as in-house counsel for Johnson & Johnson in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Federal judicial service

On November 27, 1995, President Bill Clinton nominated Greenaway to be a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, to replace Judge John Francis Gerry.
