Bombay Citizens' commitee

Bombay Citizens' commitee was an advocacy group which lobbied to keep Bombay city out of Maharashtra during the state reorganisation. The group was headed by a leading cotton industralist Purshottamdas Thakurdas. J.R.D. Tata was one of the members and the commitee was composed mostly of Gujarathis. The group submitted a 200 page application to States reorganisation commitee in year 1954. [Ramachandra Guha, "India after Gandhi", p 197-198]
