Impingement syndrome

Impingement syndrome

Impingement Syndrome, often called "Swimmer’s shoulder" or "Thrower’s Shoulder", occurs when the tendons of the rotator cuff (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis muscles) become irritated and inflamed as they pass through the Subacromial Space.

This can potentially lead to the tendon becoming thicker, which in turn can cause further damage as there is a lack of free space. Therefore, as the tendons get bigger, they are impinged further by the bones and joints of the shoulder and the muscles themselves.
