European Federation Parasitologists

The European Federation of Parasitologists (EFP) is a non-profit scientific international organization. It was founded in November 1966 and gathers around 30 national societies of Parasitology of European countries. More than one hundred of European scientists are affiliated to the EFP through their national societies. The original bylaws were published in the International Journal of Parasitology in 1979 (Vol 9, pp 487-489). The EFP is a member of the World Federation of Parasitologists [http://www.wfpnet.org/tab_home.php?lang=en] . The aims of the EFP are to promote the exchange of knowledge & coordination of research related to parasitic organisms in Europe, to consider & promote the problems of basic, veterinary & medical Parasitology and to hold conferences (European Multicolloqium of Parasitology or EMOP) in various European countries every 4 years. Ten EMOPs have been held so far; the last one was held in Paris (France) in August 2008 and gathered around 800 scientists from 60 different countries. The EFP stimulates the involvement of young scientists in the development of Parasitology in Europe by the "Young Scientist Award" and scholarships to cover the registration fees of EMOPs.
