About the band:=

Witt (also known as Mr. Witt) is a three piece Math Rock band from San Diego, California. The band consists of Jesse "DJ Pot O' Gold" Kranzler (Guitar), Henry Wessman (Bass), and Evan Backer (Drums). Previous members include Herbie Hancock (Piano), Dave "Brit" Brittain (Trumpet), Michael Armstrong (Drums), and "Tiki" Thomas Fernandez (Theramin & Lead Vocals). All four past members have gone on to have mildly successful careers.

Early History:

Witt formed in the early 1970's when Kranzler, Wessman, and Backer all met at a mathematics convention in Paris, France. Through an odd series of events, they discovered they were all from San Diego and were very skilled at "doin' the math."

Career:

In 1974, (Mr.) Witt was signed to Marienthal Records (a subdivision of Def Jam records) and released their first album entitled "Whip." Between the years of 1974-2008, the band released 23 albums, all called "Whip." All hit number 1 on the Billboard charts. They later went on to sign to Young Optimist records, a much bigger and more established record label.
