Kabitsata, also Kambitsata and Kampitsata ( _el. Καμπιτσάτα), accented forms: Kabitsáta, Kambitsáta and Kabitsáta is a settlement in the island of Kefalonia, Greece. Its 2001 population was 39 for the village.

Population

Location and transportation

Kabitsata is located south of Sami, about 10 km (5 km direct) west of Poros and about 36 km east of Argostoli. Xenopoulo is connected with the Argostoli-Poros Road which is nearly 130 km to the north and also the closest with about 4 to 5 km to the southeast, it also has a poor road to Agios Eleftherios and the north slope of mount Ainos.

The village has about 3 km of gravel road and about 2 to 3 km of hydro lines.

Geography

Its geography are mountainous and are made up of farmlands. It sits on a mountain slope, the area are mainly deforested. Farmlands are within the village.

History

Kabitsata was ruled by the Venetians until the Napoleonic Wars when it was French mostly throughout, it was briefly Russian and Ottoman with autonomous administration, and again French, after the invasion until 1864, it became a part of Britain with its possession, the United States of the Ionian Islands until it finally ceded to Greece. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, some of its buildings were rebuilt. Arginia was dramatically devastated by the 1953 Ionian Earthquake and took a few years to rebuild with modern architecture and a disappearance of stone built houses. Arginia became connected with asphalt in the 1970s. More pavement was accessed in the 1990s. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. Kampitsata joined the municipality of Eleios-Pronnoi in the late-1990s after it was part of the old commune of Poros from 1913

Economy

Its main economy is agriculture, its main production includes olives, cattle, fruits, vegetables and other crops, the village has about 100 to 200 farms in the area.

Panorama

Kabitsata offers a nice view of its nearby small valley and the village of Tzanata as well as northern Paliokastro, mount Atros, Kokkini Rachi and the village of Kampitsata.

Other

Kabitsata has a school, a church, a post office, and a square ("plateia"). Its nearest gymnasium (middle school), lyceum (secondary school) are in Poros or Pessada?.
