- Robert Tjian
Robert Tjian (born 1939) is a U.S. biochemist best known for his work on
eukaryotic transcription . He is currently Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at theUniversity of California, Berkeley and an investigator of theHoward Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Tjian has been elected as the next president of HHMI, beginning on April 1, 2009.Education
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1971 and a Ph.D. degree from Harvard University in 1976. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for three years before returning to the University of California in 1979 when he was appointed Assistant Professor of Biochemistry.
