William Berger (or Bill Berger) is an American author, radio music host and commentator.
Born in
California ca. 1960 , studied Romance languages and musicology at theUniversity of California, Santa Cruz . For five years he had worked in theSan Francisco Opera , being responsible of acquiring company’s records collection. As author, he wrote such books on music andoperatic composers as: "Wagner Without Fear" (1998), "Verdi With a Vengeance" (2000), "Puccini Without Excuses" (2005), all published by theRandom House . He also wrote somelibretti , and articles dealing not only with music but also on topics of religion and architecture.He frequently gives lectures on operatic music and composers, and is also radio commentator and has recently been a regular host for New York Public Radio’s Overnight Music and WNYC radio. Since creation of the
Metropolitan Opera Radio on Sirius in the Fall of 2006, he is writer of all commentaries read during entractes of historical broadcasts, a co-host during live performances from theMetropolitan Opera House, and the moderator at the Met's Opera Quiz.References and links
