Cheryl Bentyne is a
Grammy -winning singer best-known as a member of the vocal quartetThe Manhattan Transfer .Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, she first appeared on the Manhattan Transfer's 1979 album, "
Extensions " which won the group its first of tenGrammys to date (2008) for "Birdland " (Best Jazz Fusion Performance).She shared another Grammy with
Bobby McFerrin for "Another Night in Tunisia” from the album"Vocalese ", and received another Grammy as writer of "Sassy".Solo career
In 1988, she appeared on bassist
Rob Wasserman ’s "Duets" album, and the following year recorded "Back in Business", with fellow Transfer member Janis Siegel andLorraine Feather for the soundtrack to the film "Dick Tracy " (1990).She also collaborated with trumpeter/composer Mark Isham in the soundtrack to the 1991
Alan Rudolph film, "Mortal Thoughts ".In 1992 she released her solo debut album "Something Cool".
In 2000, Bentyne recorded and released an album from her musical revue based on the music and wit of
Cole Porter , "Dreaming of Mister Porter".Her 2004 "Talk of the Town" album featured pianist
