website = [http://www.fabriclondon.com www.fabriclondon.com]Fabric is a
nightclub inLondon ,United Kingdom . It is one of the largest and most popular night clubs in the UK and widely regarded as one of the best dance music venues in the world. [http://www.djmag.com/index.php?op=top100club] It is located onCharterhouse Street opposite Smithfield meat market on the northern fringe of theCity of London .History
The club was founded by
Keith Reilly andCameron Leslie and opened on 21st October 1999. It has three separate rooms, named rooms 1, 2 and 3, with independent sound systems. A popular feature of the club is its vibrating floor in Room 1. Known as a "Bodysonic" dancefloor, sections of the floors are attached to 400 bass transducers emitting bass frequencies of the music being played, allowing clubbers to feel the music through bass frequencies transmitted into their bodies via their feet. The sound system has attracted much praise from international DJs. Some, like Chilean minimal superstarRicardo Villalobos have even gone so far as to claim that parts of their work have been inspired by the rich soundscapes at Fabric parties.Style
Musical genres played there vary from night to night, with
house ,tech house andtechno DJs and live acts appearing on Saturdays, for the self-titled "Fabric" night anddrum and bass , hip hop, electro andbreakbeat DJs and acts on Fridays, for "FabricLive". Fridays and Saturdays are in-house promoted while during the rest of the week, the club is available for third party promoters to hire. The polysexual Sunday "DTPM", which has been a long running night at the venue, ceased to exist as a weekly event on Sunday 2nd December 2007. However, in "DTPM"'s wake, Spanish club giant "Matinée" announced in January 2008 that it would be bringing gay and polysexual clubbing back to Fabric on Sunday nights. The first "Matinée" at Fabric took place on Sunday 27th January 2008.Performances
Many well-known club nights have moved to Fabric over the past years, tempted by the size and reputation of the venue, including Tyrant and Night of
True Playaz . Resident DJ's have remained the same since the launch withJames Lavelle and Ali B on Friday's FabricLive andCraig Richards andTerry Francis on Saturday's Fabric. The club has had many top DJs play, and as well as booking more established names, the club provides a take on the current state of electronic music by booking less established names on the UK and International circuit, such as Berlin based DJ and remixerEwan Pearson . It also has strong affiliations with several labels such as Playhouse,BPitch Control ,Kompakt and Sender, which use label showcases to highlight their up and coming talent.Fabric Mix CDs
To provide a means for the club to highlight its diverse music policy, a CD series was launched in 2001. These are released as Fabric and FabricLive on alternative months, featuring artists from both of the nights on rotation.
matter
In September 2008, Reilly and Leslie plan to open their new 2,600 music venue matter. Located in The O2, it will be their first project outside of Fabric.
