Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park . The lake is approximately 1,200 m long and 400 m wide, at an elevation of 1,981 m (6,498 ft). It is fed by the Kokanee Glacier and is the headwater of Kokanee Creek. Access is by the Gibson Lake trailhead, from which Kokanee Lake is a 4 km hike. Fishing is permitted and the lake is usually stocked withcutthroat trout .Michel Trudeau avalanche accident
The body of
Michel Trudeau , the youngest son of the late former Canadian prime ministerPierre Trudeau , was never recovered from this lake. OnNovember 13 ,1998 , Michel Trudeau died following an avalanche accident that swept him into Kokanee Lake. The Kokanee Glacier Cabin was built on the shore ofKaslo Lake to commemorate him and 12 others who died as a result of avalanches in the park.
