The Long War Journal points out that the vessel was owned and operated by Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines, an Iranian state-run company, and the scheduled time from the entry into the Gulf of Aden to the Suez canal was two days longer than normal. The article also notes that officials ofPuntland believe that the vessel carries a shipment of chemical weapons destined for Islamist insurgents inEritrea .
