The Vincent Award

The Vincent Award is an European award given to an artist whose works are highly relevant to the contemporary art. The award is held every two years starting from 2000 in the Netherlands. For every award five artists are nominated and the winner is granted with the prize of € 50.000.The Vincent award is aimed at stimulating European artists and building the discussion platform within the Europe.

History

The Vincent Award was established in 2000 by the "Broere Charitable Foundation" in memory of Monique Zajfen, a beloved friend of the Broere family and holder of the Gallery 121 in Antwerp.

The art collection of Monique Zajfen constituted of the works by The Vincent Award winners and purchases of works by other contemporary artists is given to the Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam on long-term loan.

The award first took place at Bonnefanten Museum of Maastricht, the Netherlands. Starting from 2006 The Vincent Award is hosted by Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam. The winners of the award are defined by six members of the jury headed by the director of Stedelijk Museum of Amsterdam. The composition of the jury is the matter of change for every award, but it always consists of the professionals in the sphere of the European Art.
