National IT Day

National IT Day

National IT Day formerly known as Technology Day is an unofficial secular holiday observed on the day of October 3 annually, to recognize the work of administrators, technicians, managers, and other IT professionals.

National IT Day was created in 1992 through the work of Jim Clippard of International Business Machines Corporation (IBM). His goal was to encourage more people to consider careers in the Information Technology field. Using his skill and experience in public relations, Clippard promoted the values and importance of the job of IT professionals. In doing so, he also created the holiday in recognition of the importance of the professionals.

Over the years, National IT Day has become one of the largest workplace observances. The event is celebrated worldwide, bringing together millions of people for community events, social gatherings, and individual corporate activities recognizing support staff with gifts of appreciation. In the United States, the day is often celebrated by treating your IT professionals to lunch, bonuses, raises, or other gifts.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the sole official sponsor of National IT Day, suggests that employers show their support for the holiday, and their staff, by providing training opportunities for their IT staff, whether through continuing education, self-study materials, or seminars.

National IT Day is a registered trademark with registration number 3,443,753 (serial number 92/566721). The registrant is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.
