- William Henry Bogart
William Henry Bogart was born in 1810 in New York state and died in 1888. He was a historian of Dutch Colonial, and American History. He is most well noted for writting "
Daniel Boone and the hunters of Kentucky" in 1854 and "Who goes there? or, Men and Events" in 1866. He moved to Aurora, New York sometime in the 1840s and is credited with building the Wavebank House, now part ofWells College .William Henry Bogart often wrote under the pseudonym of Sentinel. Bogart was a correspondent for "The New York World Newspaper", "Enquirer" and "The New York Comier". The vast majority of William Henry Bogarts work was concerning colonial and early American history. He was also a member of the
New York Legislature .He was a direct descendent of
Henry Isaac Bogart of Albany, New York, a signer of theSons of Liberty Constitution in 1766. In 1775, he was elected to represent the first ward on the AlbanyCommittee of Correspondence and served on that board throughout its lifetime.Sources
