- Bennekom
Bennekom is a village in the
municipality of Ede in the easternNetherlands , lying south of the city from which the municipality takes its name. Bennekom is situated at the border of theVeluwe , a naturalpark and north ofWageningen and itsRhine .It has a population of around 15,000, an athletics track, several soccer fields and a swimming pool.
The center of the village is formed around the St. Alexander (or "Old") Church. There are six more churches in Bennekom, which is mostly due to the divided nature of
Protestantism in the Netherlands. There are six notable elementary schools in Bennekom: the St. Alexander School, the Prinsenakker, the Juliana School, the Wilhelmina School, the Wingerd and the Ebenhaezer. There is also a (VMBO-) departement of a secondary school which is a part of "het Streek" (a secondary school mainly located in Ede).
Its location near
Ede , theVeluwe and theRhine , the high standard of living and the low rate of unemployment in the region makes Bennekom a good, but expensive place to live. It also serves as an ideal place to celebrate retirement, which is noted by the high amount of 65+ aged people, and the large part of Bennekom which is reserved for landhouses and villa's.Bennekom has always been a part of Ede, except for the period 1811 - 1818, when it was a separate municipality.
