Shiekh Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani

H.E. Shaikh 'Abdu'l Aziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani,Born at Doha, 12th December 1948 by sheikha Amina Al-Suwaiydi the second wife of sheikh khalifa bin hamad althani ruler of Qatar (1972-1995)He finished his education in Northern Indiana University USA (MA). Minister for Finance and Petroleum 1972-1992 (Dep. Min. 1972), Chairman of OPEC 1976-1977, President of Qatar Monetary Agency and Notational Petroleum Co. 1972, he left Qatar in 1992 to France since then never come back to Qatar regarding a power struggle with e current ruler his brother sheikh hamad bin khalifa al-thani. As emir, Shaikh Khalifa wanted to promote his second son Abdel Aziz bin khalifa to become crown prince because he favoured his mother over the mother of Hamad. In 1972, Hamad forced his father to promote him to general and became army chief of staff. Later he became commander-in-chief of Qatar's armed forces with the rank of major general. In 1977, he compelled his father to make him crown prince and defence minister. Shaikh Khalifa had made Abdel Aziz minister of finance and petroleum, a position which Hamad wanted to undermine.

In the 1980s, Hamad gained experience in many fields other than defence, including the petroleum sector which he wanted to control. In mid-1988 he issued a decree making QGPC the sole executive body in charge of the petroleum sector, thus sidelining Abdel Aziz's ministry. In July 1988 Hamad became the first man in Qatar to grant a PSA to a foreign company as he issued a decree for a production sharing agreement between QGPC and Total involving development of North Field gas reserves dedicated for Qatar Gas - Qatar's first LNG export venture (Gas Market Trends No. 11). In June 1989, Hamad set up the Supreme Planning Council under his chairmanship. By then, Abdel Aziz had ceased functioning as finance and petroleum minister and left Qatar. Hamad got a younger brother, Abdullah Bin Khalifa, to function as acting minister of finance and petroleum.He has issues : 10 Sons and 12 Daughter married 3 wifes first bint shaikh ahmed bin ali old ruler of qatar.
