Taki Bibelas

Taki Bibelas (born in Greece), is a Greek Canadian photographer.

Taki Bibelas, was born in Athens, but moved to Canada at a young age where he spent time growing up between Winnipeg and Montreal. He finished university after graduating in Communication and Sociology. He then moved to Europe shortly afterword to work as a photographer. After a short start in photojournalism he settled into fashion and portraiture. His photographs have been published in different editions of Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, as well as other European magazines. In June 2000 he had his first solo exhibition in Paris at the Thierry Marlat gallery, followed in 2003 at the Museum of Geuthery in Biarritz France. In 2004 he collaborated with Bardi Johannsson on a project for the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. In 2008 he started a collaboration with the Waoh gallery in Germany with his surfscape photographs. Bibelas has an ongoing surf film project that as been filming in Hawaii and California that uses surfing as a metaphor to raise awareness about waves, the ocean and importance of water. Takis lives in Paris France where he continues to work for fashion magazines and art projects. Peter Gowland custom made a camera for Taki whereby he could take a 4x5 film and 4x5 Polaroid at the same time, in order for the two to become blended together as one image using digital techniques. He is best know for his Polaroid style where the picture seems to be a Polaroid snapshot from a family member and not a professional photographer.
