The fosh is a seldom used pitched in major league baseball. It is done by putting one finger on the side of a ball, starting a split finger fastball but not putting the other finger on the other side. The fosh has little spin and is a few MPH slower then the regular 4-seam
fastball . The little spin it has breaks as if it was a slider. It was based off of theFork Ball It is often said to have more name than substance.Users of the Fosh
Roger Clemens once attempted to use the Fosh but found it an unsuccesful pitch. The Boston Red Sox attempted to throw it within their bullpen, but were not able to bring it into the orginization. Al Nipper was the only pitcher to use it succesfully throught his career. He managed to use it periodically throughout his 15 year career, and although it has gained popularity in the north east, no one has been to replicate Nipper's results. Kerry Wood is said to throw the Fosh, but he has never public claimed to use the pitch.
