Howard V. Hendrix

Howard V. Hendrix

Howard Vincent Hendrix is an American scholar and science fiction writer. He was born in Cincinnati. He is a cousin of blues musician Mike Tetrault. He is author of the novels "Lightpaths" and "Standing Wave" and a member of the editorial board of "Comitatus: A Journal of Medieval Studies".

Controversy

Hendrix created a stir among science fiction and fantasy fans and authors with a LiveJournal posting on April 12 2007. [http://community.livejournal.com/sfwa/10039.html Hendrix's "webscabs" post on LiveJournal] ] The purpose of the posting was to explain, in part, why he would not be seeking the presidency of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America after having served as its vice president. He attacked authors who offer their works for free on the internet, either as written works, or recorded as podcasts, comparing them to scabs. His comments have drawn criticism from a number of other authors, such as Michael A. Stackpole [ [http://www.stormwolf.com/thesecrets/podcasts/tsvse01.mp3 Audio response by Michael A. Stackpole to Hendrix] ] , John Scalzi [ [http://community.livejournal.com/sfwa/11289.html Response to Hendrix by John Scalzi] ] , and David Wellington [ [http://www.brokentype.com/davidwellington/2007/04/message_from_a.html Response to Hendrix by David Wellington] ] , and resulted in International Pixel-Stained Technopeasant Day.
