Gregory Scott Reid, Greg Reid or Greg S. Reid) is an American author, filmmaker, and motivational speaker.
He is currently producing a book and movie with renown author, entrepreneur and educator,
Sharon Lechter . Called "Three Feet from Gold", "the project is based on a parable in "Think and Grow Rich " (1937) the classic, bestselling motivational book by American authorNapoleon Hill (1883-1970). This project is a working collaboration with the Napoleon Hill Foundation, (the organization responsible for passing on the teachings of the late Mr. Hill) who selected Reid and later conjoined Lechter. A speaker known for his energy and passionate delivery on stage, Reid often utilizes parables in his teachings to convey his messages."Personal life
Although he was born in
Pacoima ,California (Los Angeles County ), Reid has lived inSan Diego County ever since his family moved to the idyllic beach city ofDel Mar , when he was three years old. He attended high school in San Diego and graduated from Bonita High School. At 21, Reid began working in the specialty advertising field. It was here he acquired extensive sales knowledge in a company that emphasized the motivational aspects of sales combined with strict discipline and ongoing training. An adept salesman, after reaching management level, Reid was headhunted by--and worked at--several different specialty advertising companies in the San Diego area.
In 1997, Reid started his own specialty advertising company, Worksmart Promotions. After seven years at the helm of Worksmart, and upon the advice of a close friend (former founding C.E.O. of Velco USA, Jack Mates [ [http://www.dfcommand.com/jack_mates_his_life.htm Distinguished Flying Cross ] ] ), Reid decided to give up his then financially-secure position as Director of Worksmart to pursue a full-time career as a
motivational speaker and author. Selling Worksmart at a profit in 2004, Reid applied himself to the task by contacting several noted speakers and seeking their tutelage.Motivational Speaker and AuthorIn 2003, Reid published his first book, "The Millionaire Mentor - A Simple Way to Get Ahead in Your Work and in Life". Rich in parables and short, readable vignettes, its direct style and easy-to-read format combined with its powerful sales and motivational tips transformed in to a
Barnes and Noble bestseller and has been translated into nine languages [ [http://www.alwaysgood.net/about_the_author.php Three Feet from Gold ] ] )Two years later, Reid teamed up with
motivational speaker , bestselling author, mentor and close friend, Charlie 'Tremendous' Jones [ [http://executivebooks.com/cjones/ Welcome to Tremendous Jones ] ] to write "Positive Impact". This book duplicated its predecessor's best-selling status and was issued in several different editions. Among other bestselling book collaborations, Reid coauthored "Wake Up and Live the Life you Love" with Steven E. and Lee Beard. In 2007, Reid produced "Pass It On", a movie that seeks to transmit the collective knowledge of many notable personalities. Produced in a 'formula for success' format, it provides its own definitions of what attaining success means and how to achieve it.
"Think and Grow Rich" to "Three Feet from Gold"
In 1908,
Napoleon Hill was approached by Scottish railroad magnate and philanthropist,Andrew Carnegie and convinced to interview the world's most renown icons of the day. Armed only with letters of introduction, a then unknown Hill proceeded to meet with the icons of his day (Thomas Edison ,Alexander Graham Bell ,George Eastman ,Henry Ford ,Elmer Gates ,John D. Rockefeller ,Charles M. Schwab ,F.W. Woolworth ,William Wrigley Jr. ,Joseph Stalin ,Theodore Roosevelt ,William H. Taft ,Woodrow Wilson , among others ) to derive a common formula for success. Twenty years, dozens of interviews and several books later,Napoleon Hill penned "Think and Grow Rich " which gave a blueprint for success as he saw it.It was after the release of "Pass it on" (and exactly 100 years after Carnegie met Hill) that Reid was approached by Don Green of the Napoleon Hill Foundation to take the themes in "
Think and Grow Rich " and reintroduce them to a contemporary audience--many of whom were not born until after Mr. Hill's lifetime. Reid was asked by Green to co-author Three Feet from Gold. Taken from a chapter in "Think and Grow Rich ", of the same name, the parable extols the value of perseverance and the importance of not giving up, despite all temptation to the contrary.Ironically, the manuscript was initially rejected by all the publishers Reid courted. Undaunted by this setback, Green suggested that he call in noted writer
Sharon Lechter to coauthor the book. It was this collaboration and reinvigorated manuscript that led to many of the major publishing houses doing an about face and actively courting Reid and Lechter. In order to better illustrate the book's theme of perseverance , Reid , Lechter and Green decided to film the various stages in the making of the book and its initial setbacks. In the movie, Reid follows in Napoleon Hill's tracks-—exactly one hundred years later-—by interviewing contemporary business, sports, science and entertainment icons (Dave Liniger, Jack Mates,
Evander Holyfield ,Wally Amos ,John Schwarz ,Truett Cathy ,Julie Krone ,Jahja Ling , among others), this time with a letter and blessing from the Napoleon Hill Foundation. However, unlikeNapoleon Hill who was seeking a recipe for success, Reid quizzes the noted personalities of his day to ascertain what internal drive propelled them to persevere and not give up in the face of steep odds or disheartening setbacks.Currently the book is awaiting finalizing of publishing negotiations and the movie is in its final stages of editing.
Reid continues his work as a
motivational speaker as he works on the full development of the projectReferences
