Grenada–Russia relations

Grenada-Russia relations are the bilateral foreign relations between Grenada and Russia. At the time of the New Jewel Movement, when Cuba helped Russia (who was the Soviet Union at that time) make Grenada a "Cuban-Soviet colony". Grenada and the Soviet Union signed diplomatic missions on September 7, 1979. But later were severed on November 4, 1983. After that the Russian embassy in St George's and the Grenadian embassy in Moscow was closed. It was later when the diplomatic relations between both countries were reastablished on September 17, 2002. Russia decided to cover Grenada from its embassy in Georgetown, Guyana (which also now covers Trinidad and Tobago).

Today, both countries have a more friendlier relations. The bilateral cooperation in the sphere of tourism is growing constantly. Russia covers Grenada now from Georgetown, Guyana. Russia's ambassador to Grenada is Mr. Pavel A. Sergiev. No visa is sometimes recuired for Russians to visit Grenada.

Visa crisis

One Russian tourist who was on Air Jamaica, headed to Bridgetown, Barbados, used a Grenadian passport. The passenger said that the Russian man left a medical kit behind on the plane and it carried the name Guorgios Simonenkov. Several Russians were reported buying a Grenadian passport to Barbados. They were sued in New York for 500, 000.00.
