Dance (While The Music Still Goes On)

"Dance (While the Music Still Goes On)" is the sixth and final track on the A-side of the pop group ABBA's album "Waterloo". It was the first track recorded for the album on September 24, 1973. The song is notable for taking inspiration from the Beach Boys and infusing it with Phil Spector's wall of sound, similar to the style used on tracks such as "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes. All four ABBA members share the vocals on the song, with two short solo spots by Agnetha Fältskog, first as an intro to the song, then as its bridge.

"Rolling Stone" singled out the track for its "endearing original touches" and called it "a near-perfect number," tracing its influences to the Beach Boys' hit "Don't Worry Baby." Perhaps because of its critical acclaim – and a sound design shared by the remaining tracks – the song was included on ABBA's first official "Greatest Hits" compilation, even though it bears the unusual distinction of being the only track on that album not to be released in any territory or country as a 7" single. The track bears that same distinction on RCA's record-breaking "The Best of ABBA". Since the release of these hit packages, however, the song has not appeared on any of the group's official singles and hits compilations, other than as part of the Thank You For The Music" box set.
