Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba, commonly referred as Instituto, is an Argentine club from Córdoba whose professional football (soccer) team currently plays in Primera B Nacional, which is the Argentine 2nd division..

As many other football clubs in Argentina, Instituto was founded by railway workers. They were established in 1918 as "Instituto Ferrocarril Central Córdoba".

With the re-organization of the administration of the club 6 years later, due to the number of members in the "Alta Córdoba" neighbourhood, the name was changed to the current "Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba".

After their foundation, Instituto quickly reached the first division of the "Liga Cordobesa", which it won in 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1928. With the professionalization of the game in 1931, the club lost momentum and sunk into an unsuccessful period.

But years later the team revived, conquering the provincial league again in 1961, 1966, and finally in 1972, reaching the Argentine second division.

Instituto played their first ever season at the top level in 1973 where they finished 8th out of a group of 15 teams, but they had to wait six years to try again. In 1979 they won their group to reach the Quarter-Finals where they were eliminated 5-3 on aggregate by Club Atlético Tucumán.

The club also played in the Nacional in 1981 to 1985, and in the Metropolitano in 1981, 1982 and 1983. After the reorganisation of 1985 they played all 5 of the long seasons although they were relegated at the end of the 1989/90 season.

The club then had to wait until the 1999/2000 season to play in the top flight again. They won promotion and the second division title after winning the 1998-1999 Nacional B tournament.

The club were very unlucky to suffer relegation from the primera after only 1 season, they finished 16th out of 20 teams in the Apertura and 12th in the Clausura, but were relegated after a 2-1 playoff defeat to Almagro.

The club won its second title, the second division Apertura 2003, and was promoted back to first division after getting their revenge over Club Almagro in a 2 legged playoff in 2004.

The club survived one season in the Primera after winning a two legged promotion/relegation playoff against Huracán by a score of 3-1.

In their 2nd season in the Primera they finished 19th overall and were automatically relegated back to B Nacional.

The 1986/87 season was probably the most successful season in their history, they finished 8th overall.
