History

Wemple and Edick opened in 1826, but didn't attract many customers at first. This changed with the opening of its General Store. At first, the store only sold Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry. The store was kept out of bankruptcy through the Great Depression, but after the owner, Robert Steinwell died in 1987, none of his family members were willing to take its possession. In 1994, it was reopened by Becca Morrison, who recreated the Wemple and Edicks atmosphere, but added more flavors. In 2000, Wemple and Edicks was sold to its current owners, Bob and Laura Channel. They have since kept the store in a steady condition.

Wemple and Edicks is a part of Sammonsville, Johnstown, and Fonda history.
