Barbari Roma Nord

The Team

Barbari Roma Nord, are one of the most well-known American Football teams in the Italian Capital, Rome. Currently, they compete in the A2 FIDAF Championship. The team practices in the Ernesto Dezi sports center, and has won three prestigious national awards.

History

Foundation

A. S. Roma Nord Barbari A. F. T. was created in 1999 through the efforts of Manuel Schollmeier and Daniele Napoli after their extensive experiences in this sport practiced in Rome. Founded at the end of the past millennium, this American Football team introduces in the Italian capital a new mental approach in practicing football, extrapolated by the deepest and purest roots of this sport. By proposing and implementing an efficiently strict standard, BARBARI also foster a strong relationship between staff and players. They thus create their own particular style, on which coach and player Manuel Schollmeier (after a broad experience of teaching to younger players) bases the team’s setting and philosophy. This very philosophy emphasizes passion, sacrifice, honor, humility, discipline, seriousness, and loyalty. As a matter of fact, here is how he describes the motivation which brought to the eventual creation of the team: "The team’s creation, longed for by both Daniele Napoli and myself, served as an appeal to all those veterans who have shown in the past to be akin to our mentality, and to profess therefore to future generations a football made of physical contact, violent battles, extreme suffering, of intensity, victories, and even ...of defeats". Development

2000

*BARBARI get down on the field and play their first championship in Winter League, immediately implementing their basic Power Football, which will distinguish them from now on.
*In their very first season, with barely any veterans, and almost all newcomers, the BARBARI score a victory and six defeats, yet emphasizes since the start their unique style of playing and intense competitiveness, which will eventually become the team’s trademark in the years to come.

2001

*Two years of hard work are finally showing their results; the Bianconeri play a Perfect Season, with a total of six victories out of six.
*BARBARI access Playoffs and reach semifinals where they are defeated by Titans Romagna.

2002

*10/13/2002 BARBARI’s Junior League Under 20 begins playing in the JL FIAF 2002, the national Italian championship under 20, immediately reaching Playoffs.
*The Junior League ranks among the first eight best Italian junior leagues.

2003

*BARBARI qualify for the semifinals of 2003 Nine League.
*10/25/2003 Young BARBARI stand out as the best junior football team in Italy.
*The Junior League qualifies for the championship’s finals.
*BARBARI lose against LIONS at the 2003 YoungBowl finals for barely one point.

2004

*BARBARI play a Perfect Season and qualify for the CSC Bowl finals, which they lose against Crusaders Cagliari for three points.
*Junior League confirms its first place in the Arctic Conference, scoring maximum points.
*Young BARBARI finalize a Perfect Season, winning 6 matches out of 6, and scoring 252 points against the 40 ones lost.
*12/05/2004 BARBARI win Bowl of Conference.
*BARBARI from the Junior League are declared vice-champions of Italy, losing the main title for barely two points against Green Hogs Reggio Emilia.

2005

*05/16/2005 Memorable victory for Barbari Roma Nord, who gloriously win the NineBowl III against Blue Storms Gorla, after another Perfect Season. Furthermore, BARBARI are now the first Roman team to win a National senior championship.
*12/18/2005 The boys from the Junior League win the Italian championship. This victory is a milestone in the history of football in the Italian capital. As a matter of fact, the BARBARI are the first team in ten years to bring back the Youngbowl to Rome.

2006

*BARBARI begin playing 11-players football.
*Under President Napoli, BARBARI win girone Centro of serie A2, with six victories and one defeat , reaching quarter finals.
*A2 Commissioner Roberto La Rocca assigns BARBARI the award for Best Coaching Staff to Head Coach Manuel Schollmeier.
*In the Junior championship, BARBARI lose their first Playoff game after four years, and three super finals conquered in Perfect Season. This confirms the BARBARI have one of the best football schools in Italy. The team’s junior league establish a new astounding record of thirteen derbies won consecutively against other Roman teams.

2007

*A new winning season in the A2 championship, where BARBARI reach Playoffs and defeat Hogs Reggio Emilia. They are then defeated by Skorpions Reggio Emilia
*JL reaches 2007 Playoffs, losing at the very end against Warriors Bologna.

2008

*Barbari Roma Nord join the National League of American Football in Italy (LE.N.A.F.) which has the goal of representing and safeguarding American Football teams in Italy.
*01/23/2008 BARBARI join the Italian Federation of American Football (FIDAF).
*BARBARI participate in the A2 championship. After six victories and only one defeat, BARBARI gloriously win the national title of Italian Bowl 2008 against Titans Romagna for a score of 44-16. The team thus wins its third national title after only eight years from its foundation, thus becoming the Roman team to have collected the most trophies.
