Xpert

Xpert began as a reconditioning of Micro Budget GUI (MBGUI). The need for a running balance ledger became important to introduce the idea of never having to close a month, quarter, or fiscal year.

Xpert versus MBGUI

The project began when clients of RDA Systems, Inc., the creators of Micro Budget GUI, were dissatisfied with the traditional fund accounting process of having to balance the ledger to close the fiscal year in order to begin the new fiscal year. MBGUI had it problems as it was a cumbersome product that required hours of training and explanation to understand. Even with training only experienced accountants and administrators in the field of fund accounting to utilize the software to its full potential.Thus RDA Systems research and development team, headed by David Tidd, began experimenting with the idea of a program built on a GTK platform versus the Motif (widget toolkit) platform of MBGUI that would maintain a balanced ledger and become more user friendly.

Xpert Software

There are three areas of software development:Xpert API (Libraries, Headers, Environment) - The libraries, headers, and environment are all licensed under the General Public License (GNU/GPL).Xpert Tools / Utilities - The tools and utilities are a mixture of GNU/LGPL and GNU/GPL licenses.Xpert Applications - The application is licensed under the GNU/LGPL.

Environments

Xpert is available for Microsoft and Linux servers in both 32bit and 64bit.

Next few releases

The 1.0 Alpha release entered testing in early 2004 and was then released to several Beta testing locations that same year. Since its stable release in 2005 Xpert has quickly overpowered MBGUI as the flagship software of RDA Systems while maintaining its General Public License (GNU/GPL).Currently Xpert 2.0 is under development and is tentatively scheduled for an Alpha release in the first quarter of 2009.
