In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the flameskull is an undead.

Publication history

The flameskull was introduced to the D&D game in the second edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition (1989-1999)

The flameskull appears first for the Forgotten Realms campaign setting in "Dragon" #197 (September 1993) in the "Dragon's Bestiary" column, and was later reprinted in the "Monstrous Compendium Annual Volume One" (1994).

Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition (2003-2007)

The flameskull appears in "Lost Empires of Faerûn" (2005). [Stout, Travis. "Lost Empires of Faerûn". Wizards of the Coast, 2005]

Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition (2008-)

Description

The flameskull is a tiny undead guardian created from the skull of a recently slain humanoid spellcaster.
