Reviews =Unexpect the Expected is the debut EP from
Brisbane bandHot Liquid Sex .It features the singles "You Ain't Mine" and "My Vanity" as well as "Trousersnake", a song penned with
James O'Brien fromBrisbane band The Boat People who lead singer Ocean Wilson was dating at its time of conception. The remaining songs are written by Ocean Wilson and touch on various themes from chinese biscuits, love and even being stuck in routine. 'Emergency!' was revealed as a love song originally written for her other band and intended to be a duet. But Wilson left abruptly when her boyfriend was discovered to be constantly unfaithful.
The EP has six songs credited although the first song 'Wherearewearewearethere, yeah' is actually a seven second introduction to the subsequent 'Fortune Cookie'. Ihe tracks were seperated for ease of radio play.
Brisbane musicianLucas Arundell contributes additonal guitar and rhodes on 'Fortune Cookie', 'Emergency!' and 'Trousersnake' while producer Ben Stewart contributes egg shaker and manager Ben Preece plays cowbell and sings backing vocals. The title was contrived by drummer
Ange Kohler who believed that their all-girl lineup and suggestive band name created some sort of perception to critics and audiences. The title is intended to encourage people to drop their perceptions and not to expect the expected. The album was released by
Mucho-Bravado and produced and mixed byBen Stewart .Track listing
