Encostas da Nave IPR

Encostas da Nave is a Portuguese wine region located south of the Douro DOC in northern expanse of the Beiras region. The region has the second tier "Indicação de Proveniencia Regulamentada" (IPR) classification and may some day be promoted to "Denominação de Origem Controlada" (DOC). Despite similar names, the Encostas da Nave IPR is quite distinct from the Encostas da Aire IPR located in the limestone hills extending across the northern end of the Estremadura region into the southwestern corner of the Beiras region. Grapes

The principle grapes of the Encostas da Nave region include Folgosao, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina, Mourisco Tinto, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional.
