Ross Berkal

Ross Berkal

Ross Berkal, American composer and musical performer. Born 1963 in Newton, Massachusetts. As a youth studied at Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music. Later relocated to New York City where he founded the underground alternative rock project Dahlia, known for its novel use of electric bass as a primary instrument, and for which he composed its entire output. He ended the project in 1998. The trauma of a relationship break–up in 2003, coupled with Berkal's conversion to Christianity, led to several months of intensified compositional effort yielding "Songs That Jesus Taught Me", an anthology employing popular and classical music forms to illustrate Christian themes. His current output continues along these lines. His mother is singer Judy Valentine.
