- Nancy Beebe
Nancy Beebe was a fictional character on the television series "It's a Living". She was played by actress
Marian Mercer .Nancy was the maitre'd at Above the Top, a restaurant at the Westin
Bonaventure Hotel inLos Angeles . She worked with several waitresses over the years. Her subordinates included Cassie Cranston (Ann Jillian ); Dot Higgins (Gail Edwards ); Amy Tompkins (Crystal Bernard ); Maggie McBurney (Louise Lasser ); Jan Hoffmeyer (Barrie Youngfellow); Ginger St. James (Sheryl Lee Ralph ); Lois Adams (Susan Sullivan ); and Vicki Allen (Wendy Schaal ).She was supervisor of the women; and sometimes she fraternized with them, but more often than not was their adversary, since she really wanted an orderly staff, but she never got that. Despite her strictness towards the waitresses, though, she really was fond of them. Many of the waitresses' schemes involved Nancy in some form or function.
Nancy also had to contend with the antics of piano player Sonny Mann (Paul Kreppel), of whom she (and the wait staff) wasn't too overly fond of. On the point of Sonny, she and the waitresses could find agreement on.
Eventually though, Nancy found herself falling for the chef, Howard Miller (Richard Stahl), who at first, deflected her advances, but eventually found himself falling for her as well. The two eventually married.
