Joseph McIlvaine (born in
1947 ) is a baseball executive and former professional baseball player.He played in the minor leagues from
1969 to1973 , posting a win-loss record of 16-16. During the 1970s, he was a scout in theBaltimore Orioles ,California Angels andMilwaukee Brewers organizations. He became theNew York Mets scouting director in1981 and held that position until1985 . He served as the Mets assistant general manager from1986 to1990 , and in1991 he left to become the general manager of theSan Diego Padres . He stayed in that position until1993 . InAugust , 1993, he was hired to replaceAl Harazin as the Mets general manager, and he served as the Mets' general manager until July,1997 .He was a special assistant to the
Minnesota Twins general manager in1998 , and again from2000 to present.References
