Per Husby

Per Husby (born 2nd April 1949 in Oslo) [ [http://www.ballade.no/nmi.nsf/doc/art2002040912300423083543 Biography and pictures] from Norsk Musikkinformasjon (5.8.03)] is a Norwegian jazz musician, (piano), composer, teacher, civil engineer, and orchestra leader known for a number of recordings.

His interest in jazz came from growing up, together with jazz journalist Knut Borge. [ [http://www.horvei.com/artikler/husby.html Per Husby] by Tom Horvei.] Husby studied piano at Norges Musikkhøgskole (1962-67), and became a sivilingeniør in acoustics (under Asbjørn Krokstad) at NTH (1973), following it up with studies at Jazzlinja (NTNU) and Berklee in Boston. In Trondheim (1971-80) he worked with the Bodega Band where he (with Jan Tro) wrote a large amount of music on many recordings. Later, Husby played in groups led by Asmund Bjørken and Bjørn Alterhaug, and with Trøndelag Teater (1977-80). Husby led his own septet, (1975-78), quintet (1980-83), and released records with the Per Husby Dedication Orchestra (13 tracks).In Oslo (1980-) he took over the leadership of Foreningen norske jazzmusikere (1983-85), wrote and edited Jazznytt (1981-84), translated "Great names in jazz" (1980). He became best known as the NRK-MC in the programme Da Capo.Husby translated the book "Store navn i jazzen" (1987).Husby has also produced for Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen, and played in the Bodil Niska quartet.
