- The Stars From The Commitments
The Stars From The Commitments is the only official Commitments band. Formed shortly after the 1991 release of the Alan Parker movie The Commitments which was based on the Roddy Doyle book of the same name, the band can still be seen today.
Original Commitments cast members Dick Massey (drummer Billy Mooney in the film) and Kenneth McCluskey (bassist Derek Scully in the film) are the founders of the spin off band. They have played in excess of 1500 shows worldwide to more than 6 million people. They have performed with stars such as BB King, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Sam Moore and Ben E King to name but a few. They have been invited by Presidents and Prime Ministers, and Kings and Queens to play their own particular style of Irish soul music, that the movie made them famous for. The band still consistently tours the world.
