Patrick Balthrop, Jr

Patrick Balthrop, Jr. is currently Senior Sound Designer at Harmonix Music Systems in Cambridge, MA.

Patrick has worked in Sound Design in the Interactive Software industry since obtaining his Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music in Boston. During his undergraduate years, Patrick held positions at PKA Management in Boston, where he worked on marketing and promotional projects for musical artists including Aerosmith, and later entered the industry with a position in audio and sound design at Harmonix Music. Patrick joined Harmonix immediately upon earning his degree from Berklee as a full-time composer and sound designer.

Patrick moved to 2K Boston /Irrational Games in 2006, where he was an integral member of the award-winning audio team on Bioshock. Bioshock has received numerous awards, including Game of the Year by the Associated Press, BAFTA and Electronic Gaming Monthly. The audio work that Patrick contributed to Bioshock has also received considerable recognition, including Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences and Best Audio at GDC 2008.

Patrick returned to Harmonix in April 2008 working as a Senior Sound Designer on the Rock Band franchise.

Patrick also is a successful electronica recording artist, with international releases on labels Xynthetic and Gears of Sand. His latest release, Sundowner, was named one of the top five releases of 2007 by Phlow Magazine. Patrick’s songs have also been placed in films, including most recently "The Regret" at The Sundance Film Festival and the New York International Independent Film Festival.
