Pablo Gato (Saõ Paulo, Brazil, 1961) is an award-winning Spanish journalist and writer. He is the CEO and founder of Gato Communications, a Washington, DC-based media training and public relations firm.
He has had a 30-year long career, with 22 of those years on television as a national and international correspondent, producer and news director at Telemundo, Telemundo-NBC, CBS/Telenoticias and CNN en español. Gato has covered more international conflicts and wars than any other Spanish-speaking journalist in the US Hispanic television market. His reports include live coverage of the aftermath of the September 11 attack at the Pentagon; terrorist attacks in Madrid and London; invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq; wars in the Balkans, Peru/Ecuador, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Lebanon, Palestinian Intifada, US invasion of Panama and Haiti; President Clinton’s impeachment; international and US presidential campaigns and elections; natural disasters such as Hurricanes Katrina, Mitch and Andrew; space shuttle launches, including the Columbia disaster; visits by Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI to the United States; international summits.
Gato is the recipient of two Emmy® Awards – one as best producer for the series “In Search of Pablo Escobar” and the other as best reporter for breaking news for the report “Violence in Haiti.” The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recognized him with Honorable mentions for coverage of the September 11, 2001 attacks in Washington, DC and the War in Afghanistan. He was also nominated for two Emmys® for the stories “Orphanage in Sarajevo” and “The New Russia.” He received a National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ award for his report “The Green Plan,” about a US plan to invade Mexico. The Association of Women in Communications awarded him the 2008 Clarion Award for Television Investigative Feature or Series (National) for the series "The Triple Frontier."
In 2006, Spain’s Editorial Verbigracia published his first work of fiction, the espionage novel "El plan Hatuey" (The Hatuey Plan), about a secret and dangerous mission by the Cuban intelligence services in the United States.
