Reliable Snapshot Overflow

Reliable Snapshot Overflow

Reliable Snapshot Overflow (or Reliable Channel Overflow), commonly abbreviated to RSO, is an error in online games using the Source engine, most notably those which have a high level of modability, such as Garry's Mod.

The error is caused by an error in the game code which causes a prop's data still to be processed by the server after it has been deleted. This means that over time, the server will have to process lots more data, and send lots more to clients when they first join. This results in the client being forced to instentaneously render all models that have ever existed on the server, causing the game to crash and disconnect.

A recent update to the engine has greatly reduced the frequency of the error.
