In 1976, he was the Critic for Economic and Regional Development. He was re-elected in the 1979 election then defeated in 1980. He was re-elected again in the 1984 election. He was defeated in the 1988 election in the new riding ofKootenay West—Revelstoke . He was a member of numerous standing committees in cluding Chairman of theCanadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Forestry and Chairman of the Legislative Committee on Bill-90. He was Vice-Chairman of theCanadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Regional Industrial Expansion , theStanding Joint Committee on the Printing of Parliament and a member of other committees.
