Wilsons River (New South Wales)

The Wilsons River is a river in northern New South Wales. It was formerly known as Wilsons Creek and the North Arm of the Richmond River, into which it flows at Coraki. Wilsons Creek was named after William Wilson, the first settler in Lismore, in the period 1844-5. [ [http://www.lismore.nsw.gov.au/cmst/lcc002/view_doc.asp?id=2922&cat=143 Lismore City Council] Retrieved on 26 September 2008] It rises in the eastern section of the Nightcap National Park and flows southwest through Lismore and then south to Coraki.

It floods periodically, and on occasion, has inundated Lismore. It's for this reason that many of Lismore's homes are built elevated, in a fashion known as hiset.
