"Whose Room Is It Anyway" is the fourth episode of Fox's hit comedy show, "Married... with Children". It was written by Marcy Vosburgh and Sandy Sprung, and originally aired on April 26, 1987.

Plot

Come bill-paying time, Al is infuriated of how he doesn't get a tax refund. When Steve and Marcy tell both he and Peggy that they don't know what to do with their refund, Al and Peggy convince them to add a room to their house. Then, both Al and Peggy try to scheme with Steve and Marcy respectively to get the room they want: a pool room for the guys, or an exercise room for the girls.

When both Steve and Marcy find about the other scheming, they decide to discuss it alone and end up agreeing to make instead an all-purpose room for both of them. Disappointed, Al and Peggy refuse to sign the variance and kick them out of their house.

Popular and Cultural References

* Al references a Hoover vacuum cleaner when telling Steve how kids would spend all his money if he had them.
* This is the first episode where Al shows his hatred for French people when he rebukes Steve and Marcy for wanting to go to Paris saying "Oh yeah, Paris. Where they hate Americans. Where they won't let our bombers fly overhead - oh yeah, until they get invaded. When they come crawling back to us, beret in hand, for us to bail them out with my tax dollars. That's where you wanna go".
* Kelly is shown tearing up her new jeans which was a fashion trend in the 80s.
* Al and Peggy use different parallels to try to convince Steve and Marcy of not giving up to the other. While Al, continuing his rant against the French, says that Pierre Curie let his wife "take the credit for discovering radium" and that Albert Einstein invented the theory of relativity "in his own room with the door closed", Peggy uses the case of Adam and Eve (from the Bible) as an example of how women have always ended pleasing men's desires. She also compares Marcy with American civil rights leader Susan B. Anthony.
