Young Christian Workers

The Young Christian Workers is an international organization founded by Joseph Cardijn in Belgium as the Young Trade Unionists; the organization changed its name in 1924. In 1925, the YCW grew throughout Belgium and the world.

YCW in the past

Young Christian Workers is a movement started by Joseph Cardijn in Brussels. He organised this movement to defend the rights of young workers using the method of "see - judge -act. The first group was formed in 'royal Laeken' in 1912 by Jaques Meert, Paul Garcet, Fernand Tonnet, Madeleine De Roo and a young priest, named Joseph Cardijn. Since then the YCW has grown and in 1957, officially became an international movement with its first world council in Rome.

Today's YCW

Nowadays the YCW is organized in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and the Americas, in more than 2000 grassroots base groups with around 20,000 young workers who are regular members.The international headquarters is located in Brussels, Belgium.

The International YCW is a Non Governmental International Movement actively present in over 48 countries with members between the ages of 15 and 35.

The IYCW has 4 official branches, the Panafrican YCW, YCW of the Americas, YCW Europe, and YCW Asia Pacific.
