The New Monkey

The New Monkey

The New Monkey was a nightclub based in Pallion, Sunderland. The music it played was mainly Makina and Italian techno. The club was a massive inspiration to the North East Makina scene and saw many popular DJs and MCs start out at The New Monkey and make a success of it. In 2006 the club was raided on suspicion of drugs on the premises. The police and local council then decided to close the nightclub down to save any further trouble. Many events like The New Monkey have formed since the loss of The New Monkey, all are yet to inspire the scene as much as TNM did.
