"The Snake King's Wife" (" puos keng kang", also "Snake woman") is a 1960s-1970s Cambodian Drama horror film, based on a Cambodian myth about the half-human daughter of a snake god. It is a Khmer highly commercial success in The time before The Khmer rouge and had been release in worldwide box office especially in Thailand which brought back a better result of grossing revenue.

Plot

This film began following the legend of Neang Nhi who had sex with the Snake king for the pay of his helpness and hid it from her cruel and jealous husband. However, Her Husband, Minom, Unlocked the secret and started a plan in ordered to kill the snake by chopped his head and cooked his meat as food for Nhi. Nhi found out about the Dead of the Snake and she also killed by her cruel husband while she was bathing. As her Worn was cutting out, There were several little snakes appeared but Most of them were killed by Minom and just only one left who than arrived at a hermit's cottage as the hermit can turned him to the Human and also named him, Vasana

Several years later, Vasana, Grow up as a handsome man and began fell in love by a rich man's daughter but while they were married, His bride's stepmother who was jealous of him and his wife, Had made a magic to transferred him to a snake again. The Villagers were afraid and abandoned the wedding and the rich man dropped dead immediately and his step wife ran away for her life and now it still had a big snake and his wife. Despite his beauty, His wife still loved him until one day, she gave the birth to a female baby called Cantra but, Unfortunately, She was born with the little snake as her hair as a old witch had put the cursed on her family. When She grow up, A father,suddenly, turned to the stone and her mother became crazy who ate the blood and raw meat as food. Now, Cantra became orphan and also became the servant for the ugly witch until one day, she found a plan to break the cursed by the midnight when the witch was seeking for food with only her head and intestine. Cantra went to the witch's locker room and burned everything including the witch's body, The witch arrived that time but she also burned in fire with a loudly scream of her suffering. Finally, The cursed was broken, Her parent became normal and Cantra's hair turned to the blonde beautiful long hair and they all lived happily ever after in a big house.

The King Snake Wife got a highly success in Cambodia. That's why it progressed the released to foreign countries including Asean and some part of Europe. The most worldwide box office hit country was from Thailand which the film had grossing a double of Cambodia Box office.

Remake and Sequel

In 2001, The first full-length feature film to be produced in Cambodia since before the Khmer Rouge era directed by Fai Sam Ang and starring by Thai leading man Winai Kraibutr and 17-year-old début Cambodian actress Pich Chanbormey.According the Similar plotThe film was said to be the 1960s film remake but As its different title which translated to The Snake King's Child, The Film, then become the sequel of The 1960s film. However, In 2005, A horror Romance film called The King Snake's Grandchild, which seem as the sequel of The Snake King's Child, released. who also directed by the Same director, Fai Sam Ang.
