"Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, a Sailor from York" ("Dobrodruzství Robinsona Crusoe, námorníka z Yorku") is a 1982 Czechoslovakian film directed by Stanislav Látal.
Plot summary
Differences from novel
There are several major differences between the novel and the film. Most notable is the inclusion of a cat (rather than the dog included in the novel) who appears to represent the USSR and dies a grisly death in an unlikely encounter with a giant moose. The film also makes several clear references to homosexuality, including an extended scene in which two male cannibals copulate in a tree, before being shot by Robinson Crusoe. This scene sparked some controversy upon the film's imminent release, but the uproar soon died down when critics realized the film was homophobic in tone.
