Sreenath Sreenivasan

Sreenath Sreenivasan - also known as Sree Sreenivasan - is a professor and technology journalist based in New York City.

Sreenivasan is a graduate of St. Stephen's College in Delhi, India, as well as the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He runs the new media program at the Columbia Journalism School. His courses at Columbia focus on new media, web design, and web usage. Every year he instructs new Journalism School students and faculty on the better use of the Internet. His Internet seminars for new students are a staple for the school's summer curriculum.

He teaches Internet workshops called "Smarter Surfing: Better Use of Your Web Time" [http://www.sree.net/web] , which he runs for outside groups and Columbia alumni.

He is the former advisor to the school's chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Sreenivasan helped found [http://www.saja.org SAJA, the South Asian Journalists Association] , a group of journalists of South Asian origin in the U.S. and Canada and served as its first president and continues to serve on the board and as an editor and writer of [http://www.sajaforum.org SAJAforum] , one of the most widely read South Asian news and analysis blogs.

Sree served as the Tech Guru on WABC-TV for six years, before moving to WNBC-TV as technology reporter in Jan. 2007. He appears twice a week on the air and [http://www.wnbc.com/technology on WNBC.com] .

In 2004, Newsweek magazine named him [ [http://www.newsweek.com/id/53439 Newsweek's Power & Influence list] ] one of the 20 most influential South Asians in the U.S.
