- The Who Boys
The Who Boys are a 3-member band/DJ unit that started in 2001 who write and record original and mashup tracks. Although they have over 100 original tracks available for free on their website to date, their first album, "Shit Music for Shit Cars", was released on iTunes, Rhapsody and other mp3 digital download sites in September 2008. This follows their mashup albums, "Tales of Townshend & Wilson" (2004) (The Who vs The Beach Boys), "For Mash Get Smashed" (2006) (various sourced material), and "The Good, The Bad & The Who Boys" (2007) (various sourced material).
Their original music is primarily an assortment of electronic music ranging from drum and bass to dub and techno, sometimes including folk/acoustic, lounge, etc, but always infused with lyrics serving as a social critique of modern British life. This is most fully represented on their original albums "The Life and Disaster of Old Jack Mathers" and "The Quite Album". They also released the album "Monologues" in 2008, which included contributions from John Shed (co-presenter on the Saturday Night with The Who Boys podcast), Tony Crackburn (The Tony Crackburn Orchestra/Pilchard), and Danny Pockets (visual artist). Their most recent music has been in collaboration with The Tony Crackburn Orchestra and The Crackettes.
"Saturday Night with The Who Boys", downloadable worldwide since August 2006, is their monthly podcast. It features hard-to-get original music, new mashups, and an assortment of interesting and dodgy guests.
The Who Boys have been reviewed by journalist Alex Ogg, author of "The Hip Hop Years" and "No More Heroes", describing their original incarnation as Normal, as "The Greatest Band You've Never Heard". [http://www.bandofholyjoy.co.uk/normal3.html]
