Jorge Plasencia

Jorge A. Plasencia is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of República, a national branding, advertising, communications and interactive company.

Prior to establishing República, Plasencia was most recently Corporate Vice President and Operating Manager of Univision Radio, the largest Spanish-language radio broadcaster in the United States. Previously, he held the position of Vice President, Marketing, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs.

Prior to joining Univision, Plasencia was Vice President of Estefan Enterprises, Inc., a global entertainment, media and hospitality company. Plasencia was responsible for corporate business development, marketing, publicity, and corporate strategy for the company’s numerous divisions. Plasencia directed the company’s important artist management operation that handled the day-to-day management and business affairs of numerous international artists, including Gloria Estefan and Shakira.

Prior to Estefan Enterprises, Plasencia was the first Director of Hispanic Marketing for the Florida Marlins Baseball Club. During his tenure, the Marlins established an array of successful turnkey sales and marketing programs that achieved impressive results and measurable growth for the Team within the Hispanic market. Furthermore, due to his efforts, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce awarded the Team with the prestigious and coveted Hispanic Marketer of the Year Award in 1997.

Plasencia serves on various national boards, including the Executive Committee of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the US; the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI); and is currently Vice-Chairman of the Cuban American National Council. In South Florida, he is Chairman and Co-Founder of Amigos For Kids, a non-profit organization he started when he was 17 to assist underprivileged children and their families; and serves on the boards of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, the Gloria Estefan Foundation, and is a trustee of the United Way. In 2004, Plasencia was nominated by President George W. Bush, and confirmed by the United States Senate, to serve on the Advisory Board of the Broadcasting Board's Office of Cuba Broadcasting.

Plasencia, who graduated with honors from Barry University, has received numerous awards and honors. Plasencia has been named a “Hispanic Leader” by the United States-Spain Council and has participated in numerous business and leadership programs throughout Spain. Plasencia has also been recipient of various awards for his work with underprivileged children and on behalf of the US Hispanic community. These include: the UNICEF For the Love of Children Award, Big Brothers Big Sisters Miracle Maker Award, the Florida Association of Women Lawyers Child Advocate Award, Hispanic Heritage Council Young Hispanic Leader Award, the Inter-American Business Association Business Leader Award, the Chivas Regal Hispanic Leader Award, the United States/Spain Chamber of Commerce Hispanic Leader Award, and the Public Relations Society of America Royal Palm Award.
