The Treaty of Fontainbleau was signed on November 8, 1785 in Fontainebleau between the Emperor of Austria and the States-General of the United Provinces. Based on the terms of the accord, the United Provinces was permitted to maintain sovereignty over the Scheldt Estuary. However, it had to provide several concessions to Austria including payment of ten million Dutch florins and dismemberment of certain military fortifications.
