Kanakides

Kanakides

Kanakides is a small deserted village on the east coast of Aegina Island in Greece. The village was named after the family (Kanakis) that once lived there. It was probably established sometime in the Middle Ages. The geographical location was chosen in order to avoid pirate raids since it can not be seen from the sea.Fact|date=September 2008 The last inhabitants moved out in the 1970s. Today all that remains are the ruins of a few stone houses. The village can be reached by either foot or car, and offers spectacular views of the east side of the island.
